Our client is an independent, non-governmental, nonprofit international development organisation largely funded through donations with two categories of donations: project-specific donations (that can only be used on that specific project) and not project-specific donations. One major problem the organisation was facing turned out to be related to exactly that system: a lot of donations were project-specific but it was direly needed to also get not project-specific donations to finance their efforts. Additionally not being able to predict which projects are going to get donations makes it very hard to plan accordingly and fund all projects accordingly.
But how can you try to figure out what people are going to donate to based only on past donations and respective label?
We implemented an AI algorithm that predicts donor preferences based on past donations, enabling our client to adapt their financial planning accordingly and potentially persuade more donors to contribute unrestricted funds, allowing greater flexibility in allocating resources where they are needed the most.
