The German Red Cross (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz) grappled with a pressing issue – the complexity of filling out social benefit forms in Germany. This problem resulted in six million people not receiving their entitled benefits. Their quest was to simplify the bureaucracy and improve access to social benefits. The journey began with a large language model fine-tuned on DRK data.
To tackle this challenge, DRK required a tool that could assist individuals with social benefit applications while providing valid support based on current legislation, including recent law changes. The solution needed to support consultation centers and cater to diverse clientele. An AI algorithm was developed to help users fill out forms by simplifying the German language and guiding them through the process. This AI project demonstrated how AI can empower people and make the world a better place.
